
Laura I. Miller
A writer and editor based in Denver, Colorado, my fiction straddles literary and speculative genres and is strongly influenced by fairy tales and science fiction. I have an MFA in creative writing from the University of Arizona and an MA in fiction from the University of North Texas.
My articles and reviews appear widely, including in DARIA Art Magazine, BookFox, LitHub, Electric Literature, Bustle, and elsewhere. My fiction appears in Joyland, Passages North, Denver Quarterly, Psychopomp, Cosmonauts Avenue, Mid-American Review, Specter, and elsewhere. I’ve been a finalist for the YesYes Books Vinyl Chapbook Contest, the Writers of the Future Contest, the Madeleine P. Plonsker Emerging Writers Prize, and the Sherwood Anderson Fiction Award. In 2023, I was an artist-in-residence at Vashon Island. I’m the managing editor for MSU Denver’s award-winning newsroom, RED.
Authors who inspire me include Kelly Link, Ken Liu, Ling Ma, Margaret Atwood, Octavia Butler, N.K. Jemisin, Angela Carter, Karen Russell, and Kevin Brockmeier, to name a few.
